- Begin with puck between middle and heel of blade
STICKHANDLING

- Puck placed near heal of the blade stickhandle quick and efficiently
- Proper position of hand on stick stickhandle while moving around keeping head up
DEFLECTIONS
- Knees bent back straight
- Stick on the ice head up and on swivel
- Open blade closer to the shooter then front foot
- Watch shot or pass from shooters stick to his/her stick into the net
- Angle stick at last minute toward the intended target
PASS RECEIVING
- Stick is positioned closer to the passer then the front skate
- Puck is watched all the way to the stick
- Keep head up
- Puck is cushioned by bringing the stick back (away from the passer) at the same speed of the puck and gradually slowing the stick and the puck down to a halt

GOALIES: GLOVE SAVES

- Say "See It" when puck hits glove
PASSING
- Point to target
- Roll Wrists
- Head up
- Arms away from body
BACKWARD STRIDE
- Bend your knees deeply so that they are covering your toes
- The back is straight, head is up and eyes are forward
- Start each push from directly under your body
- Pivot the heel of the pushing foot up and outward so that it is perpendicular to your glide foot (forming an upside down letter "L")
- Push one foot at a time using all your weight on each thrust
- The pushing foot drives to the side, to full extension, forming a "half-moon" ("C") in the ice while the other foot glides straight back
- Do not swivel your hips like you are dancing, maintain as direct or straight a line as possible
- Then, return the foot to the middle, under your body and repeat the exact maneuver with the other foot
SLAP SHOT
- Eyes up, head erect and on a swivel looking at the target
- Balance position maintained with hands slightly wider on stick in shooting position
- In full stride player shifts weight to the back leg, stick close the body, tip of the blade points down
- Weight is shifting to the front leg, puck in the middle of the body
- Quickest release is made by the stick blade contacting the ice 2-4 inches in behind the puck in the middle to the heel of the blade
- Finish with the weight on the front foot pointing at the target with upper body leaning over front leg & driving towards the net aggressively
- Tip of blade finishes pointing at the target low or high every time with of blade closed
- Body returns in balance position & is ready for the rebound or recovery position
